Third Mexico–Saudi Arabia Political Consultations Held via Videoconference

Press Release — July 7, 2021

The third round of political consultations between Mexico and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia took place virtually on July 7, 2021. The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Carmen Moreno Toscano, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, and Ambassador Waleed Al-Khuraiji, Deputy Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia.

The officials marked the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2022 and agreed it presents a key opportunity to deepen political and economic cooperation between the two nations. They committed to encouraging business mission exchanges, identifying new areas for collaboration, and strengthening the bilateral legal framework, particularly in support of increased investment flows.

The dialogue also addressed the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic recovery plans in both countries. The two sides emphasized the importance of working together to promote broader and more equitable global access to vaccines.

Saudi Arabia is Mexico’s third-largest trading partner in the Middle East, with annual trade reaching approximately USD 424 million. There is growing interest from companies on both sides to explore the commercial opportunities within each other’s markets.
